Adam Sandler at Treasure Island Casino

Adam Sandler at Treasure Island Casino
Todd Swank's Diary Entry for June 2, 2019

On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to attend an advanced screening of Rocketman at the Mall of America.  They encouraged attendees to dress like Elton John, but not a lot of people did.  I grabbed a few things from home that I thought were "Elton-like" but pretty much missed the mark.  The lady next to me won the contest which I must say I agree with.  Miss Sheri and I loved the movie.  I thought it was the best music biopic since Walk the Line.  I even enjoyed it more than I did Bohemian Rhapsody, although it doesn't look like it's going to have the same amount of success at the box office.

On our regular walk this week, we went by the stream that flows from Spring Lake to Prior Lake.  We are pretty used to seeing fish like Carp trying to swim upstream, but on this particular day the water was full of all kinds of fish trying to get up there.  It was after a heavy rain so not sure if that had something to do with it, but in any case I found it very cool.

On Friday night, we headed to Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing, Minnesota for some good old classic junior high comedy from Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler.  We were quite excited for the opportunity.

It was our first time visiting the Treasure Island Amphitheater which was a pretty nice venue, but highly restrictive on what we could bring into the show.  They had metal detectors and wouldn't allow me to bring in my regular camera, even though we could bring in phones which also allow pictures and video.  It just sucks because then we have no zoom capability so all the pictures are crappy quality.  Silly rules.

We were questioning the need for a police presence on a crane like this and then remembered what happened at the outdoor concert in Las Vegas last year.  We were in a pretty large crowd outside a casino, so we were thankful to have this kind of  protection in place.  I'm sure potential bad people would think twice about shooting at a crowd if they know there is a sniper in place ready to shoot back at them.  Sad we have to prepare for this kind of stuff now.

Rob Schneider opened the show and was quite funny as usual.  He joked about the fact that he's on his third wife (which is only 1 marriage by Hollywood standards) and what it's like being 52 while raising young children.  Both comedians were much raunchier than I was expecting, but I guess I should have expected that considering every movie I've ever seen either one of them in.

Adam Sandler was great.  All of his material was original and he sang a ton of new songs most of them just pure silliness.  They were filming this performance for an upcoming Netflix show he has coming out and I look forward to watching it.

I've been a fan of Adam Sandler ever since his days on SNL.  My boys love him for his movies like Big Daddy and Happy Gilmore.  I can't say I've ever seen a full stand-up routine of his, but he performed for almost 2 hours and it was great.  He's funny, down to earth, and seems like a normal guy despite the fact that he's done billions of dollars at the box office.  If you ever get a chance to go to one of his shows, I would highly recommend it.  It's a lot of fun.

On Saturday, we finally had the opportunity to visit the hottest ladies fashion shop in the Twin Cities, Indulge Boutique.

Our good friends, Sue & Ron Korkowski, took over Indulge Boutique a couple of months ago and have completely re-modeled it.  I've always been impressed with Sue's sense of fashion and Miss Sheri was excited to go in there and do some shopping.   It's a dangerous place for me because everything you look at is gorgeous and you want to buy it all!  If you're into ladies fashion and are in Eagan, Minnesota, do yourself a favor and stop by Indulge Boutique to visit with Sue.  You will be happy you did!
